Well, we have waved goodbye to half term, Halloween and bonfire night. The nights are drawing in, there is a distinct chill in the air and it’s getting harder to come out from under the duvet in morning! It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!
With the tree to dress, the decorations to buy, and special gifts to buy for those you love – the ‘to do’ lists go on forever. But this year, why not support small businesses, buy something ‘not off the shelf’ and enjoy the magical atmosphere of one the many Christmas markets on offer. North Wales has really embraced this trend and the growing number of great Christmas markets offer an intimate festive atmosphere. Stalls offering delicious locally sourced and produced foodie treats, unique gifts, crafts, handmade decorations and of course mince pies and mulled wine a plenty!
Here is a small selection of the many markets to tempt you;
Portmerion Food & Craft Festival – 30th Nov to 2nd December
More than 120 artisan stalls offering the best local food, entertainment, gifts and seasonal produce and all set in this romantic winter wonderland. There is a Santa’s grotto, music and cookery demonstrations. It should be a magical night out on the Lleyn!
Beaumaris Victorian Christmas – 24th & 25th November
Free entry and free parking for the duration of the event. There are bouncy castles, stalls, face painting, Christmas donkeys, carriages and a fabulous parade on Saturday at 5pm – not forgetting Santa will be there too!
Conwy Winterfest – 8th December (4pm – 7pm)
Conwy Winterfest kicks off with a grand torch lit parade, led by the town’s jester, followed by armoured knights carrying blazing torches. There is street entertainment in the square and an excellent array of shops stay open well into the evening. The local pubs and restaurants are primed to offer sustenance to weary shoppers!
Llanberis – 13th December
The Christmas Fair will start at the Social Club at 6.30pm on Thursday December 10. There will be a Lantern’s parade, Brass Band, carols, festive stalls as well as food and drink.
