We had a taste of spring this week so it’s natural to start thinking about spending time out and about with family and friends. Easter offers the perfect excuse to get together and enjoy some new season sunshine but, be warned, it’s early this year (the 3rd to the 6th of April)!
Just so you’re not left ‘hopping’ mad, leaving plans until the last minute, we’ve put together a roundup of some of the top family Easter events taking place across North Wales in the coming weeks.
Take the kids
Build a Nest! – Conwy RSPB Reserve
The RSPB Reserve in Conwy is hosting an exciting and informative Easter-themed workshop on Tuesday the 7th of April. This fun event for all the family will teach you all about birds and nesting and you’ll even get the opportunity to work together to make a giant nest to sit inside!
Booking is essential for this event, so be sure to get in touch with the RSPB.
Welsh Mountain Zoo – Colwyn Bay
Hidden amid woodland in a picturesque corner of Colwyn Bay is this well-loved conservation zoo. Boasting a dazzling array of wildlife and some of the most spectacular vistas in the region the Welsh Mountain Zoo should be top of your must-see list this Easter.
Over the Easter break, the Zoo will once again be hosting it’s famous Egg Trail, which includes craft-making and games. Families can follow the clues around the enclosures to uncover yummy eggs hidden in some very unlikely places!
Grown-ups will love these too!
Cadbury Easter Egg Trail – Bodnant Garden
Over the Easter weekend stunning National Trust property, Bodnant Garden, will be delighting adults and children alike with an array of Easter treats.
Adults will enjoy viewing the early season blooms – thousands of daffodils, tulips, primroses, snowdrops and crocuses – while the kids follow the scrummy Cadbury Egg Trail (Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th only, £2.00 per person). Those who solve the trail will be rewarded with an ‘egg-cellent’ treat at the end!
You can also play quoits on the lawn daily, listen to storytellers at the Pin Mill on Saturday the 4th or have a cuppa at the Mad Hatter’s tea party in the Pavilion cafe on Easter Sunday (booking essential)!
For those of you with greenfingers, Easter Sunday also sees the return of the annual Plant Hunters Fair, where nurseries and growers from all over North Wales will be selling rare and and hard to find plants.
Easter Egg Trails – Welsh Historic Monuments
Custodians of Welsh heritage, CADW, will be holding Easter Egg Hunts at several sites in the North Wales area. Between 11am-4pm on the 4th, 5th and 6th of April majestic strongholds and historic houses will conceal treasures of the sweet kind for you to quest after. From Caernarfon to Conwy, Rhuddlan to Rug Chapel, you will enjoy a fantastic day out with great deals on family tickets!
Love food?
There are events for food lovers happening all over North Wales this Easter. They offer perfect opportunities to tantalise your taste buds with some delicious Welsh fare – both traditional and contemporary. Here are a few of our favourites:
Celtic Easter Fayre – Conwy
Taking place on historic Conwy Quay from the 4th to the 8th of April, Conwy’s first Celtic Easter Fayre will have food and craft stalls offering locally-produced, scrumptious goodies as well as unique Easter gift ideas for all the family. Admission is free but the Fayre invites visitors to make a charitable donation on entry.
Bodnant Welsh Food Centre
Between the 3rd and the 6th of April, Bodnant Welsh Food Centre is also holding an Easter Fayre. Taking place in the Centre’s courtyard the fayre will host local artisan craft and food stalls, a rustic hog roast and, of course, the obligatory and delicious free tastings!
Dinas Mawddwy Farmers Market
Slightly after Easter, taking place on Sunday the 12th of April, is the monthly farmers market held at the village hall in Dinas Mawddwy, near Machynlleth. If you’re journeying towards mid Wales this market is famous for the high-quality, great-value local produce sold here. What’s more, it’s unique because the market sells produce made exclusively by Snowdonian traders – try local cheese, beers, pies, cakes, plus much more!
