Gosh, is it that time of year again already? Uniform, school stationery and autumn clothing ranges are starting to appear in shops but here in North Wales the Summer holidays are in full swing. If you’re planning a visit to one of our holiday cottages Conwy before the school bell rings, why not take a look at our round-up of family-friendly Bank Holiday events?
Holiday cottages Conwy: your base for a thrilling Bank Holiday!
The Denbigh Show – Denbigh town centre, 27 August
Love The Good Life? Got green fingers? Enjoy candyfloss and fairgrounds? For a quintessentially British day out, visit the annual Denbigh Show.
This is a traditional family outdoor event held in the ancient market town of Denbigh. The whole family will enjoy a variety of entertainment and activities, which brings together the best and brightest the Vale of Clywd has to offer.
Alongside live music performances, there will be workshops, a pet show, equestrian events, a classic car show and family favourites, including Punch & Judy, donkey rides and the Broke FMX Motorcross display team.
We think there’s something for everyone at the Denbigh Show and we guarantee tired feet and happy faces on your return to your holiday cottages Conwy. The perfect end to a busy and fun-packed day.
Wild Wales Challenge – Bala, 28 August
Those of you who prefer to kick back during a visit to our holiday cottages Conwy might want to look away now!
Held annually, the Wild Wales Challenge is a bike ride with a difference. Attracting cyclists of all ages and abilities, this is not a race – it’s a challenge ride (think #RideLondon).
Each year, five hundred brave riders tackle a brand new route. The trails are planned to make the most of Snowdonia’s jawdropping scenery and follow (in the main) minor roads and country lanes. Don’t be deceived, this is no Sunday afternoon cycle, but if you’re reasonably fit you won’t have any difficulty completing it.
There is an entry fee which covers all the services provided to riders.
Bank Holiday fun – Denbigh Castle, 28-29 August
Back in the Vale of Clwyd, revisit times-gone-by and join in the fun at Denbigh Castle. This strategically important but underrated Norman castle plays host to a weekend of medieval shenanigans.
A medley of medieval characters will tell the story of the castle before your very eyes, complete with authentic sights, sounds and smells! Get hands-on with weapons and tools of the period, listen to talks from staff and re-enactors, and even challenge a knight to a duel, if you dare!
The event is free but normal admission prices apply, see the CADW website for details.
Penrhyn Castle: ‘Pools of Discovery’ – Bangor, 29 August
While many of our holiday cottages Conwy come complete with games consoles and media centres we’re urging you to unplug and reconnect with nature for our final event.
Penrhyn Castle (and many other National Trust sites across North Wales) are running family events every Monday, Thursday and Sunday during the summer and Bank Holiday Monday is no exception! With a choice of den building, bug hunting and wild art, there’s plenty to keep young minds discovering and idle hands busy.
Build your own racing raft and watch it glide across the water. Speaking of water, what lives in the pond? Especially for Bank Holiday, visitors will also have the opportunity to toot a grass trumpet and spot birds on the wing.
Activities are free but normal admission prices apply, see the National Trust website for details.
