Always Aim High Events, the organisers of the popular Etape Eryri and Tour De Mon events, are bringing a brand new cycle sportive to Wales in 2014. This Sunday 27th April, head on over to one of North Wales’ most beautiful historic towns for the Gran Fondo Conwy.
With hundreds of riders taking part, it’ll be a sight to see them all setting off from the Conwy Marina with the spectacular castle as a backdrop. The different cycle routes follow some of the most scenic roads along the Irish Sea, through Conwy and Denbighshire.
The various routes cover the iconic Llanwrst bridge, the market town of Denbigh and Llyn Brenig to name a few beauty spots. Riders following the the Canol and Mawr routes will cycle from Bylchau to Llanrwst, following the same route that Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish rode during the 2013 Tour of Britain.
The different routes the cyclists have chosen from are:
- Gran Fondo Bach – the shortest route at approx. 40 miles
- Gran Fondo Canol – around 75 miles
- Gran Fondo Mawr – the biggie at around 103 miles
- Gran Fondo Teulu – a short family ride (approx. 6 miles) so the kids can get involved too
There will also be a special time trial event called “Storm the Orme”. The roads around the Orme will be closed to give cyclists the chance to race against the clock – and each other – on a timed lap of this beautiful headland in Llandudno.
