Snowdonia
Effortless beauty
Visit an island, take a boat trip under a bridge, grab the railway or tiptoe around an ancient cottage – whatever you choose, Snowdonia is a spectacular setting at any time of year.
Snowdonia is a region in northwest Wales concentrated around the mountains and glacial landforms of massive Snowdonia National Park. We cannot possibly talk about Snowdonia without mentioning its most famous landmark – Mount Snowdon! The historic Snowdon Mountain Railway climbs to the summit of Wales’s highest mountain, offering views across the sea to Ireland. For the more adventurous visitor, you can walk or climb to the summit taking one of the many different paths to suit all ages and fitness levels.
The park is also home to an extensive network of trails, over 100 lakes and craggy peaks like Cader Idris and Tryfan. Hiking, climbing, wild swimming, cycling, bouldering, abseiling – this area has it all just waiting for you try. Take a lesson in kayaking at Surf Lines in Llanberis on the stunning Lake Padarn, or learn to climb & abseil with Boulder Adventures. You can even ride the longest Zip Line in Europe at Zip World – highly recommended by us!
Snowdonia attracts thousands of visitors each year who enjoy its amazing landscapes and the wealth of outdoor activities on offer however there is much more to Snowdonia than outdoor activities. Snowdonia has a soft side too. With incredible castles including Harlech, Caernarfon and Penrhyn, the history is rich and there is lots of it! Picture postcard villages where the pace of life is gentle – visit Beddgelert where you can walk alongside the river for miles and visit Gerlert’s Grave (a tragic but legendary tale about a dog’s love for his owner).
Historic houses such as Glynllifon with incredible gardens & sites of scientific interest, areas of outstand natural beauty, wild scenery, tumbling rivers and waterfalls, views to die for and stunning beaches with miles and miles of golden sand – many dog friendly too. Snowdonia is one of the few places where you can enjoy beaches, mountains, lakes & waterfalls all in one day!
