Passengers, commuters and even holiday-makers will soon benefit from new train routes running between North Wales and Manchester.
What routes will the trains cover?
The new rail services are exciting news for passengers travelling between England and Wales. The new train routes covered include Manchester Piccadilly to Holyhead and Manchester Piccadilly to Llandudno, as well as stops in Birmingham.
What will the benefit be?
The train lines are designed to help passengers and local businesses travel popular routes more efficiently. At least 2,450 extra seats will be available during the morning and evening peak times every week thanks to the new services. The train operator will run four additional carriages and an extra locomotive to achieve this.
Transport Secretary, Mr McLoughlin, praised the new deal, saying: “This is good news for passengers travelling between England and Wales. I know how popular these services are, so it’s important to get extra carriages and seats on the network.”
When will the new train services launch?
The services are scheduled to be launched in December following a £1.2m deal between the Department for Transport and Arriva Trains Wales, meaning that passengers don’t have long to wait for the new improvements.
Ian Bullock, Managing Director of Arriva Trains Wales, commented: “We would like to thank both the Department for Transport and the Welsh Government for supporting the provision of extra capacity on some of our busiest routes. This extra capacity will help us better meet the demand along these key routes and hopefully encourage even more passengers to use the rail network.”
