Mother’s Day (which falls on the 15th of March this year) can be a tricky celebration to plan for, as the Welsh weather in early spring can be somewhat… unpredictable. However, there are plenty of things you can plan for that don’t depend on Mum braving the elements whilst stranded in the middle of an unforgiving mountain range. So, why not treat Mum to an unforgettable Mother’s Day in North Wales this year?
Here’s a selection of our favourite family activities that the inclement Welsh weather won’t spoil. We guarantee you’ll be in Mum’s good books for the rest of the year!
The Quay Hotel & Spa – Deganwy
Spa retreats are always popular and the picturesque Quay Hotel & Spa at the mouth of the Conwy Estuary boasts high-end facilities as well as stunning views of the coast and surrounding mountains. Treat Mum to a relaxing spa package where she can choose from a range of treatments, including Jessica manicures and Aromatherapy Associates massages. Packages start from just £49 and we strongly advise booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
Fron Goch Garden Centre – Caernarfon
For green-fingered Mums, a leisurely stroll around Fron Goch Garden Centre browsing the huge selection of potted plants, giftware and garden furniture may be the perfect way to spend Mother’s Day. She’ll feel extra special if you follow up with some tasty treats courtesy of Fron Goch’s delicious ‘Sparkling Prosecco Afternoon Tea’. Surprise Mum with tea on either Saturday the 14th or Sunday the 15th of March, but don’t forget to book!
Home Cookin’ – Llandudno
Love good food? There’s nothing better than a family get-together over a slap-up meal for a memorable Mothering Sunday. Bookings are now being taken for Mother’s Day at one of Llandudno’s most popular restaurants. Home Cookin’ on Upper Mostyn Street has won multiple awards for its great-tasting fayre and use of local produce. Give Mum a well-earned break and treat her to some delicious Welsh comfort food. Home Cookin’ prides itself on producing well-cooked, good-value food in stylish, yet homely, surroundings.
CADW Explorer Pass – Multiple Locations
If Mum fancies herself a bit of a culture vulture, why not surprise her with an unforgettable tour of North Wales’s finest and most historic monuments? CADW now offer a three- or seven-day ‘Explorer Pass’, helping you get the most out of your visit to Wales. These passes are a great-value way of exploring several historic Welsh attractions in one go. Our Explorer Pass ‘wish list’ would include Conwy Castle, Beaumaris Castle and Plas Mawr in Conwy… but where would Mum go? Why not find out? A three day Explorer Pass from CADW for two adults costs just £27.
Dragon Raiders – Criccieth
For adrenaline-junkie Mums young and old, why not plan a Mother’s Day treat with a difference? At Dragon Raiders in Criccieth Mum can get her own back in a no holds barred paintball battle or whizz through beautiful forest scenery aboard a Segway! If you’re planning Mother’s Day festivities on behalf of children or grandchildren a thrilling day out at Dragon Raiders will get a thumbs-up all round!
